Suryakumar Yadav Tipped to Be India's T20I Captain under Gautam Gambhir? Childhood Coach Shares

Suryakumar Yadav

Rumors are rife in India's cricket circles that ace batsman Suryakumar Yadav could be the unexpected contender to become India's next Twenty20 international skipper.

Following Rohit Sharma's retirement from the format, selectors have expressed support for Mumbai's 33-year-old top-order batsman as the next captain of the Indian Cricket Team in the shortest format.

Though the vice-captain of the victorious Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024, Hardik Pandya, is still a serious contender, it would be interesting to watch who is selected in the end.

Some people think that Gautam Gambhir, the recently named captain of India, has endorsed Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) for the position. Given Hardik's history of injuries, SKY is a more reliable option. Surya and Gambhir get along well, and the former is crucial in determining the course of Surya's career. While Gambhir was captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he developed Surya's skill and left an enduring impression on the young cricket player.

In a special interview with myKhel, Ashok Aswalkar, the boyhood coach of Suryakumar Yadav, talked about the life-changing influence of Gambhir's mentoring on Surya. "Gautam Gambhir saw Surya's talent as soon as he joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)," remembers Aswalkar. "Surya flourished under Gambhir's guidance because of his leadership style."

Gambhir's keen observation of aggressive cricket and his tendency to develop talent was crucial in Surya's development as a player. "Gambhir's attitude suited Surya's aggressive style of play nicely," says Aswalkar. In addition to having faith in Surya's skills, he gave him the confidence and stage on which to play."

Gambhir's counsel became crucial at a pivotal point in Surya's career when inquiries over his delayed admission into Indian cricket surfaced. Gambhir, who has mentored Suryakumar, suggested that he concentrate on his physical well-being.

His advice has been very helpful to Suryakumar in his path. "Gambhir emphasized the need to concentrate on fitness and performance when he was being overlooked by national selections despite performing well in the domestic circuit and frustration crept into Surya's psyche," Aswalkar clarified. "The motivation from him inspired Surya to work even harder and establish his value."

Coach Aswalkar emphasized Surya's steadfast dedication to the game even more. Even with all of the unknowns and difficulties, Suryakumar never gave up. The secret to his success has been his patience and mental toughness. "My cricket skills will be evident and unmistakable," Aswalkar cited Suryakumar as saying. He is different from other people because of his self-assurance in his skills and his determination to keep moving forward.

The effect of Gautam Gambhir on the career of Suryakumar Yadav brings up a crucial instance where Gambhir's advice altered Surya's path. "After a sincere discussion with Gambhir, Surya became even more determined to achieve. His name became well-known in Indian cricket circles in a matter of days."

Aswalkar thinks that Gambhir's appointment as the Indian team's coach could help Surya's career even more. "Gambhir's comeback to the cricket scene, as India's coach, would help him and Surya get closer," he thought. Surya could lead the Indian squad as captain in the future, according to coach Aswalkar.

He is a great candidate for the position because of his developed leadership skills from his early years and his capacity to motivate and set an example for others. When asked if he thought Surya would lead the national team under Gambhir's direction, Aswalkar responded, "Dedication and hard effort have created a special bond between Surya and Gambhir.

The world of cricket waits with anticipation to see who will be the new Twenty20 international captain, while the future of Indian cricket lies with the selectors and the new head coach. It is undeniable, though, that the relationship between Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav which is based on respect and a common goal may open up new opportunities for Indian cricket.
