Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, thanked the people who came to the Accra Sports Stadium for the first-ever Democracy Cup.

The duel between Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, their rivals, was exciting. Asante Kotoko won the inaugural trophy with a 2-1 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak.

Bagbin praised the occasion and emphasized the public's confidence in democracy, the election commission, and the legal system, calling it a major turning point in Ghana's democratic history. Additionally, he recognized Ghanaians' faith in Parliament, which is a fundamental component of democracy.

"Ghana has a democracy!" It is my belief that Ghanaians will always remember this day. I would like to use this occasion to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your participation, attendance, and enthusiastic support but above all, for your belief in democracy and your efforts to ensure that the elections are free, fair, peaceful, and legitimate," he said.

"I appreciate your trust in the electoral commission, everyone. I express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your confidence in our legal system and your faith in parliament, the cornerstone of democracy," he continued.
