Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro, a Ghanaian goalkeeper by birth, will be AZ Alkmaar's first choice for the forthcoming season, the team's sporting director, Max Huiberts, has revealed.

This announcement coincides with rumors over Owusu-Oduro's future with the team in light of Spezia Calcio's acquisition of veteran goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet.

Owusu-Oduro enrolled in the AZ Alkmaar program at the under-12 level after beginning his football career at DVC Buiksloot. On October 2, 2020, he inked his first professional contract with the team. The 20-year-old goalie debuted in the Eerste Divisie on August 26, 2022, against FC Eindhoven, then on December 14, 2023, in a UEFA Europa Conference League game against Legia Warsaw, he made his first-team debut.

With Maty Ryan's departure, Huiberts reaffirmed his faith in Owusu-Oduro, saying the youthful stopper will have a chance to establish himself as the starting goalie.

"Jeroen's experience is one of the reasons," remarks Max Huiberts, Director of Football Affairs, about Zoet's hiring. Zoet has participated in nearly 400 professional football games.

"Maarten Martens described the state of goalkeeping last week. Rome-Jayden has the opportunity to start as the starting goalie following Maty's exit. About that, we have a great deal of faith in one another. It's good that Jeroen, a goalie with a wealth of experience under his belt, is leading the charge. He would want to be valuable in the function as discussed and is still in excellent shape at the age of thirty-three. Jeroen is keen to achieve his goals and works hard on the field every day to get better. He continued, "In his capacity, he will maintain the rivalry's rigor and work to strengthen each other.
