Richard Osei Agyemang: "No local player is financially secured."

Richard Osei Agyemang, a former Ashantigold defender, is an advocate for improved pay scales for athletes competing on the local stage.

Given that Ghana is among the countries that export the most football players, players leaving for countries with better earnings to follow greener pastures is understandable.

The former Asante Kotoko defender confirmed in an interview with Kessben FM, which Footballghana.com saw, that no player in the Ghana Premier League is financially secure because of their meager pay.

He continued by saying that since teams are unwilling to pay the elite players, amateur players will soon dominate the Ghana Premier competition.

"There are no wealthy local players. I assure you that there is no one. Anyone can come out? I challenge you. Players will remain in the league if they make a solid living. The salaries of players in the local scene are not very noteworthy. I doubt a local player will relocate outside if they make GHC 10,000. To ensure that the boys receive something as well, we must battle for them. We shall witness amateur athletes competing in the league very soon," he declared.

The 29-year-old defender, who left Ghana in 2023 in search of better opportunities, has played for Real Kashmir in India and Dhangadhi in Nepal.
