Hearts of Oak, the dominant team in Ghana, announced the death of a supporter, William Nii Laryea, during their 2024 Homowo Cup match on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium against Heart of Lions.
The club has sent its sympathies, but it has not disclosed anything regarding Laryea's cause of passing away. "With heavy hearts, we send our profound condolences to the family of William Nii Laryea, who tragically passed away yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium," Hearts of Oak stated in a statement.
The team said, "Nii Laryea was a very fervent supporter who gave us constant home and away support. The club and his family are both very saddened by his loss.
Hearts of Oak also expressed their sincere condolences and promised to assist Laryea's family with the last burial rites:
"We pray that the Almighty God will continue to lead and guard his family during these trying times, and may He grant him a forever resting place."
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Hearts of Oak prevailed 8-7 on penalties in the actual game against Heart of Lions.
