The 25-year-old forward missed the whole 2023–24 Ghana Premier League second round and has not been with a team since quitting the Phobian Club in January 2024.
Obeng Jr. thanked the club's supporters in an interview, saying he thought they saw his potential as a player.
While acknowledging that the administration had chosen to let him go, he made it plain that he still harbored no animosity against the team.
"I have no regrets about playing for Hearts of Oak," Obeng Jr. stated to Asempa FM, which Footballghana.com was watching.
"I was committed to playing for the team, but sadly, the administration had different ideas. I departed the team after receiving a one-year contract extension that was later revoked. But I have moved on and am concentrating on Heart of Lions, my new squad."
In anticipation of the 2024–2025 Ghana Premier League season, Obeng Jr. signed a two-year contract with Heart of Lions, a move that should improve the team's offensive possibilities.
He just played in his new team's loss against Hearts of Oak in the Homowo Cup.
