Olympique Marseille is eyeing Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal to bolster their offensive

Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal is the target of French Ligue 1 team Olympique Marseille, who are looking to overhaul their attack for the upcoming season.

Marseille is nearing completion of an agreement to buy Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, according to Mail Sport. The two teams have reached an agreement on a starting price of £27 million, with possible add-ons of a further £3.2 million and a sizeable sell-on clause.

Nketiah might play forward alongside Greenwood for Marseille. A fresh start in France might be intriguing to the Arsenal striker, who only made 10 Premier League starts the previous campaign. Due to the anticipated departure of top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, Marseille plans to pair Nketiah and Greenwood in a new-look attack.

It's believed that former Arsenal player Aubameyang will sign with Saudi Pro League newcomers Al Qadsiah. Aubameyang scored 17 goals and gave eight assists in 34 Ligue 1 outings last season.

Over the previous two seasons, Nketiah has scored important goals for Arsenal, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory against Sheffield United last season and a brace in a 3-2 victory over Manchester United in January 2023.

Currently, though, the 25-year-old trails Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and potentially even Leandro Trossard in Mikel Arteta's hierarchy for the central striker position.

The previous season, Marseille advanced to the UEFA Europa League semifinals before falling to eventual winners Atalanta. Despite their achievements, they were unable to qualify for European competition, finishing eighth in Ligue 1.
