Before the 2024–2025 Ghana Premier League season, Mohammed Polo, a legend of Hearts of Oak, questioned the club's choice to keep Aboubakar Ouattara as head coach.

Midway through the 2023–2024 season, the Ivorian manager was announced as the Phobian Club head coach, taking over for Martin Koopman on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

In the final game of the season, the team defeated Bechem United 3-2 at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park to secure their Premier League status. Ouattara will likely captain the team in the next campaign.

Polo, however, expressed doubts about Ouattara's performance in an interview, especially considering that the coach almost sent the squad into relegation.

The former Ghana international claims that the former Asante Kotoko coach lacked the skills required to lead a team successfully.

He told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, "I don't understand why Hearts of Oak is still keeping Aboubakar Outarra as head coach."

"Someone who almost put the squad in the bottom division. "He doesn't seem to have anything worthwhile to offer Hearts of Oak," he continued.

Hearts of Oak, meantime, have declared that they would finish their preseason in Asutsuare after moving to a new camp.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, the Rainbow Club will kick off their campaign at home against Basake Holy Stars, a team making their debut.
